Brissy to the Bay Ride

Today I participated in the 50Km ride from Brisbane to the bay (and then back to Brisbane again). You might remember I did up and old bike here and I rode her today! As comfy as the seat is I'm sure I'll have a sore butt tomorrow and I know my legs will be killing me for the next few days as I'm already hobbling around like a grandma.

It was a fundraiser event for the Multiple Sclerosis society. For those of you who don't know what MS is - multiple sclerosis, a disease of the central nervous system affecting more young adult Australians than any other neurological condition

The MS Society Queensland facilitates programs and support for people with MS including a range of residential facilities, social support programs, accommodation support services, attendant care in private homes, involvement with regional centres and country link programs. These services are vital in order to maintain the independence and dignity of people with MS

I was able to raise a fair few hundred dollars for the MS society, which I was very happy about.
Out of 4000 people who rode today I was 230th on the leader board for sponsorship!!!

RSPCA

Today was my induction day at the local RSPCA. I'm going to be volunteering on Saturdays as an adoption assistant!!!!!!

Previously I've worked as a Pooch Pal (Dog Walker) but I've never had much to do with the adoption process. I'm really excited at the opportunity to help all kinds of animals find a loving home.

There are so many different kinds of animals at the shelter that are up for adoption. Of course there are cats and dogs but there are also rats, lizards, goats, chickens and one beautiful pig!

It was at this same shelter that I got my very first kitten over 25 years ago. The story goes a little like this............ After lots of nagging from my sister and I mum phoned the RSPCA shelter to see if there were any kittens available. There were 2, one for each of us!
We jumped into the car and as we drove there my sister said she wanted a ginger kitten and I had decided on a black and white one. Mum sat nervously in the front seat wondering if the two kittens the shelter had would resemble what we wanted.
To her amazement the only 2 kittens in the whole shelter were exactly what we wanted (what are the chances of that?).

These 2 kittens grew up with our family and spent many hours snuggling on our laps. They were wonderful companions who I will never forget. I owe the RSPCA for these two little cats who brought so much joy and happiness to our lives for well over 15 years.

I hope that I can be apart of helping create a similar story for other children and families.

Do you volunteer?
Leave a comment and let me know what you do!

Present from my BFF

Look what I received in the mail from my BFF

Aren't they just so cute!!! I can't believe that after not crocheting for many, many years she just picked up the hook and made these little beauties with no trouble at all. She even managed match the cotton to Stampin UP! colours.

I'm not sure what project I'm going to use them on yet but I'm such a hoarder that I'll find it hard to actually bring myself to use them at all.

And to top it off she made the cute little box for them to go in - I'm so spoilt by her!

She has such talent and is so modest about it. Check out her blog here.

A BIG THANK YOU!!
Hugs and kiss's to you BFF
